Why Do I Blog?

I must admit I’ve asked myself this question a lot and it’s been asked of me by a lot of people that aren’t familiar with blogging.

The answer to this questions is really found within my personal mission statement that I wrote nearly four years ago.

To lead, motivate and mentor others who are pursuing their passion and purpose in life.

To encourage, equip and train other women of influence to lead a balanced life in active pursuit of their purpose.

Guiding Principles:

I represent a balanced lifestyle

I value the relationships with my family and friends and diligently seek to grow these relationships

I pursue excellence in all aspects of life: professional, personal, spiritual and physical

I am forever a student

I listen well and effectively articulate my thoughts

I embrace the gifts God has given me and use them with confidence

I demonstrate compassion and patience

I am not easily offended

I acknowledge my failures, inconsistencies and weaknesses and seek to improve them

I will relentlessly seek to be like Jesus

“In righteousness, I will seek Your face; I will not be satisfied until I awake in Your likeness.”  Psalm 17:15

I blog because I believe this is another way to live out this mission statement.  It’s a way for me to connect with other leaders and pursue the calling that God has given me.

Thank you for sharing your personal mission statement. How often do you revisit it, or do you keep it posted where you can see it? You have inspired me to pull mine out and have a look at it. I am big on balance, too, and a mission statement is such a great tool for staying mindful of balance on a large scale. :o) Thanks again. Your blog continues to be a blessing.

As a friend, co-worker, and reader of your blog I just want to affirm you. I think your blog is turning out to be a direct reflection of your life mission!

Keep up the great work. You are inspiring many through your leadership and example.

I like your blog even though you make us read the Bible 🙂
I agree with Pete, and I don’t know you personally, but I can see reflections in your blog of what you posted in your personal mission statement.
Though you may target to influence women through your life & ministry; you are influencing men as well through this forum. Great job!

We need women like yourself to admire, to grow from, and also see “real life” with.

You have been nothing but authentic. I love it!!!

It’s refreshing and challenging all in the same breathe.

Hi Jenni – i so loved talking today at lunch. Can’t wait to see what God has in store for us!

I would love to hear how you wrote your personal mission statement and any suggestions you have on that. I have done this for my ministry but not myself and I’d like to do it. I am one of those people who are paralyzed by tons of choices (and thus will eat a favorite flavor time and time again because I can’t decide!) and paring this down seems a bit overwhelming to me. I would love to hear how you did that.

i loved your purpose statement. i felt like shouting “You’re Hired!” after i was done reading it!

you are an amazing blogger jenni. i never walk away without you having given me something to chew on.

    thank you!

Thank you all for the kind words and affirmation. That mission statement is a pretty grand goal that I get wrong more than I get right.

@outofthecleft – when I wrote that statement I committed the first two lines and the closing scripture to memory to help me retain it. I pull out the entire thing every 6 months or so and read the guiding principles and want to crawl in a hole not feeling like I’ve made much progress!

@Jan – I put together a small group study that helps lead you through the process of writing a mission statement. Me and about 6 other girls did this together about four years ago. They were my guinea pigs for creating the curriculum. I’ll share it with you if you want to use it.

i’d love to see it – that would be great!

    Jenni..

I would love to see this also.

Jan & Heidi – I’ll pull it out and send it to you guys. I think I have most of it in digital form (if I can find it).

A personal mission statement – what a wonderful idea. I have never heard of that. I believe I will begin putting one together. Thanks for the post.

“I am not easily offended” Now there’s a worthwhile goal!

  • dlyn July 16, 2008

That sounds like a great mission statement to me – I will definitely be back to check out your blog some more!

  • Jenni Catron July 16, 2008

@Sally, yeah I had a big battle with the “easily offended” goal this weekend… felt a little guilty for including it in the statement 🙂
