Leadership Tensions: Discipline vs. Relaxing

Mondays are supposed to be reserved for my Leadership Tensions series, but I gotta be honest… in our final week leading up to Christmas I really want to be shopping, baking, relaxing, enjoying time with family and friends much more than I want to be disciplined to write thought-provoking ideas.

Can anyone relate?

So really, that pricked another leadership tension that exists: the tension between being disciplined and relaxing.

It’s important to be disciplined and focused.  It’s what helps us move teams forward and accomplish the purpose we’re called to.

But there is also an important place for relaxing and resting.  Sometimes you just have to pause and lighten up a bit.

The tension is in keeping the balance.  Some of us are more prone to all discipline and no rest.  Others have more difficulty staying motivated and on task.

What end of the spectrum do you lean?

For the next couple of weeks I’m planning for more relaxing.  I hope you will too!

I definitely lean towards discipline.  Admittedly to a fault.  I have to be intentional and plan relaxation on my calendar (as silly as that may sound).  But it helps keep me, my family, and my work life sane.
