I only put blogs on my google reader that I know I want to read everyday. Everything else I put on a different reader all together. 2 separate readers – 1 a daily reader, the other a weekly reader.

I have folders~ weekly, and just for fun. The blogs I check every day I leave alone so I don’t have to open any folders. 🙂

I’m really no help here because I don’t have a google reader and now I guess that due to your issue, I won’t be getting one!!

I think I read this suggestion on someone else’s blog – they use a timer to allow them only so much blog-reading time each day. I haven’t had to go this route yet, but it’s pretty inevitable!!

i also use google reader and i have folders:
    my peeps (self explanatory)
music (for the slew of music blogs I peruse daily)
marketing (for cool marketing and strategy type blogs)
churches (for cool churches doing it for real such as cross point, of course!), blogs (for good blogs that don’t necessarily belong to ‘my peeps’)
new blog subs (for the ‘newbies’ i’m trying out before tossing them into a category)
and an ‘all else’ category for those those don’t fit anywhere else.

this works for me because some days i don’t want to read any marketing blogs, so i can just go bury myself in the music blog world all day, etc. this works great for me.

I subscribe to a crapload of blogs. I remember reading about doing that. The idea is that the more you subscribe, the better chance you have of receiving good content. So that’s what I did. I subscribe to lots of stuff, but I’ve learned to skim through the list. I use google reader. Every morning I go through the ” all items” list. I generally end up reading about 25% of the posts, but they are all great.

I’m with several of the others: folders are the way to go. But now that you mention it, I need to be organizing my folders a little better since I have a slew of new folks added. For what it’s worth, my categories are:
    Church and Culture
    Bloggy World (stuff like pro-blogger…technicalities)
Art World (lots of painting and drawing, decorating)
    Leadership/Personal Development
    Friends

The first one gets read every day without fail. the last one gets read if a link lights up…but my friends are awfully quiet. Everything else gets read on my iphone in lines or when I have free time. If I don’t get to them in a week or two, i just let them pile up. Some of the more prolific writers get purged every two weeks or so, so that there is no guilt attached.
