And They’re Off!

One of the things that I love about our church is our commitment to missions… local, regional and foreign.  We do a host of things throughout the year that are missions related but today a team of 26 people from Cross Point are on their way to Santiago in the Dominican Republic to continue construction of the feeding center and church we are building there.

I had the privilege to go on this trip last July and it was truly life-changing for me.  This team is going to have an amazing experience!

Please be praying for them and follow their journey on the Cross Point Missions Blog.

Also, here’s a video from the March trip to give you an idea of what they’ll be doing while they are there:

Can’t wait till our church gets to that point. We are still meeting in a warehouse praying for a church building.

totaltransformation, I’ll totally be praying for your church and the search for a building.

I understand, to an extent, your trial. My church meets in a hotel, but God has blessed the work tremendously because of it! And let me tell you, you don’t need a building in order to have an exciting missions emphasis. There are soooo many things you can come up with!

This summer, our church is partnering with Scott Harrison and his non-profit Charity: Water (how appropriate is that? Liquid Church and Charity: Water!) with the original goal of raising money through the month of July to build three wells in sub-Saharan Africa where access to clean drinking water is practically non-existent.

Well, that goal has to be changed because, in the first day of our GLOCAL series (local church, global influence), we raised enough money to build six wells!

Get excited about God’s work! We’re still a “portable” church since we have to set up and tear down every Sunday, but God’s doing some amazing things! Don’t get discouraged. God kept closing doors as we were looking for a building. It seems that God’s will for us is to stay in the hotel. But even in the hotel, we’re having a global influence! Not too long ago we discovered that a “Liquid Church: Melbourne” had sprung up in Australia! Is that exciting, or what?!

I guess I would encourage you to pray not just for a building, but that God would show you exactly where He wants you. And use your imagination! I bet the warehouse has some pretty nifty advantages over a church building. . .

@total transformation and @Nate – we meet in a sprung structure – own our own land, but still in very semi-permanent buildings. I work in a trailer without a bathroom……..we are 10 years old.

As a church planter (twice) I will say this – “Arriving”, even if its in a tent like building, does something to a congregation I have not been crazy about. I sort of miss the days of “making do” – we were much more passionate about our vision. We settled or something when we moved into a building……and we lost – to a degree – our desire to reach out. These are sweet days – enjoy them. When you have a building you’ll just have a different set of problems. 🙂 That’s me being solomon-esque.

@Nate – cool story about the project you guys are doing. I’m so inspired by Liquid Church!

Ironically the only land that Cross Point owns is in the Dominican Republic! Our two campuses in Nashville are leased spaces. The Nashville campus is in a 24/7 facility, but the Dickson campus is in a school doing set up/take down every Sunday.
