Blinking Communication

turn-signal

I have a pet peeve…

I hate it when people don’t use their turn signals on their vehicles.

I have a theory…

How people use (or don’t use) their turn signals on their vehicle is a good indication of how well they communicate in general.

Turn signals communicate what you are about to do.  They help prepare others for your next move.

Using your turn signal is courteous.  It tells me that you care enough about others to communicate to them in a timely fashion.

If turn signals are an indicator, how well do you communicate?

I ALWAYS use my turn signals. I hope that means I am a good communicater. Also, I am a seatbelt fanatic. I had my neices convinced that my car wouldn’t start unless the seatbelts were fastened. They believed it for YEARS.

If turn signals are an indicator, them I am a good communicator. I forget once in a while, and then when I realize it, I am frustrated with myself.

I believe if your car was made with a safety feature such as the communication device known as a blinker, then USE it!

    Thank You

If turn signals are an indication I am a great communicator. Maybe to a fault. I don’t even think about using them…it is just second nature. Heath forgets often and the boys are already picking up on it because they always remind him that we turned without a blinker. 🙂

I would say yes to your theory. However, my husband is pretty good about using his blinkers, but he is not a great communicator. So, at first glance, yes, but after a second thought, maybe not so much! I, of course, use my blinkers and THINK I am a great communicator! LOL

oh my goodness…I’m right there with you on this one, sister! Truly one of my biggest pet peeves. I do think it shows that a lot of drivers are pretty self-absorbed and/or primarily only interested in communicating with whomever they have on their cell phone – verbally or via text!

I use my blinkers for everything including turning onto another highway even though you are in that lane. I would hope then that it is a good indication. My husband rarely uses his. His response is well the car is pretty far behind me so why bother. I tend to think he can be a great communicator. I don’t know. Maybe it is a sign of laziness!

I’ve been complaining about how people here don’t use their blinkers, since I moved here! I think it’s just an indicator of people paying attention to what they’re doing, and having actually paid attention in driver’s ed…but maybe that’s just me! I don’t even think hitting the blinker lever is any work, neglecting to do it really can’t even be deemed laziness. As for your theory, it may have some truth, I’m a good communicator…could be a good theory

I am an excellent communicator!! I’m with ya!

  • Heidi December 17, 2008

If turn signals are my guide, sometimes when I am rushed I forget to slow and communicate.

  • Cindy Beall December 17, 2008

Well, if we’re going by blinkers, I’m an excellent communicator when I’m in town and near others. If I’m out in the country drivin’ all by my lonesome, then I’m not a good communicator.

Sounds like we’ve got some good communicators… at least according to my theory 🙂

Oh the blinker is a huge pet peeve of mine as well. I believe if the guy in the truck the other week used his blinker I sure wouldn’t be having a car payment this month. 🙁 I sometimes wonder if I use my blinker too much though (an over communicator). Sometime after turning in my driveway when there are no moving cars anywhere in sight I laugh at how stupid it was to turn them on.

I think this is a great theory. It holds true with me; I use my blinker consistently and I feel that I communicate well with others, let them know my intentions, etc.

It’s hard for me when I’m waiting at an intersection for an approaching car—and they HAVE to see me there waiting—yet they just race to the intersection and then turn without warning…plus, they’re going so fast that I’m just not quite sure if they really are turning so I have to wait just in case….annoying. I also know people at work who are like that…they don’t answer emails even though they MUST see them sitting there in their inbox….I can’t be completely sure they got the message so I have to send another email or call or something because they’ve dropped the ball.

    Really good theory…

@fallengirl – I’ve done that too… laughed at myself for using a blinker even though no one was around… habit.. a good one in my opinion 🙂

my turn signals havent worked in over 2 years. we cant figure it out. its probably electrical and who can afford an electrical repair on a car.

so. youre gonna have to break up with me.

    i’ll miss you…..

    😉

what a good analogy! I believe it’s true and in that case, I am an AMAZING communicator.

  • I make it MANDATORY to use the blinkers while driving….I don’t care who is in the drivers seat and I don’t care where we are….I don’t even care if I’m in a right turn only lane… USE YOUR BLINKERS!!

  • ncarnes December 19, 2008

If the turn signal is an indicator then I would be an excellent communicator.
I hate it when people do not use their turn signals as well.

  • Rachel Rowell December 20, 2008

I ALWAYS use mine. So that must mean I’m an excellent communicator. Which honestly, I really am.

  • Chad Jarnagin December 20, 2008

I love the theory. You’ve gotta be on to something.

I always enjoy the read Jenni.

    Happy Christmas.
