Sunday Highlights

We continued the Paralyzed series today at Cross Point Nashville with “Fear of the Unknown”.

Matthew Paul Turner was a guest in our services today and shared a reading about “fear”.  I absolutely love Matthew’s wit and sarcasm, while yet conveying some very important truths.  If you missed it, we recorded it so we’ll be sharing that soon.

When Pete made his way on stage today, he was surrounded by a little white picket fence.  No, he wasn’t trying to fend off his fans :), he was making the point that most of us create fences in our lives.  Our fence becomes our safety zone because everything inside the fence is known.  We’re so concerned about staying safely in the fence that we don’t ever venture out.  We’re unwilling to face our fears, those things that are on the other side of the fence.  And in that way, our fears establish the limits of our lives.

Scripture & Key Points:

  • Romans 12:2
  • You combat the fear of the unknown with faith
  • Proverbs 3:5
  • Matthew 6:25-34
  • Your fear problem is not really a fear problem, it’s a faith problem

Our Challenge from Pete this week:

1) Invite someone who struggles with fear to join us next week

2) Read Matthew 6:25-34 once a day every day this week

How much is your fence limiting you?  What fear are you willing to face this week?

i seem consumed by fear of the unknown and perhaps fear of repeating some hurts at the moment. i hate it. It makes me hide emotionally from others to avoid the pain……

@Mary Carroll – so glad you found my blog! It was such a joy to meet you last week. I look forward to keeping in touch!

@Jan – you have some very valid, and I would say justifiable fears, however I know your heart and I know that you’ll leap over that fence when the time is right.
