God's Supermodel

This morning as I was getting ready for work, lost in my random musings… I found myself beginning to complain:

my thighs are disproportionately large

my shoulders are too broad

my hair is too frizzy

etc…

And then I quickly felt convicted because I’ve been told so many times how it must break God’s heart when we complain about our bodies since He made them.  (Yeah, yeah, I know)

So that got me thinking…

I wonder what God’s original design and intention was for the human form?

Adam & Eve had to have had the perfect bodies since all that God created was “good” and was as He intended.

But because of the curse of sin, life is no longer as God originally planned… and I’m pretty sure that our bodies aren’t still projecting the perfection of the original design.

So I wonder…

As women we have a pretty good picture in our heads of what we THINK is the perfect body:

5′ 9″

Size C

36-24-36

But I wonder if this comes anywhere close to God’s original design?

Is God kind of snickering at our attempts for perfect bodies?

What if our supermodel ideal is totally wrong?

Just wondering…

I needed that reminder this morning. The scale told me something I didn’t expect. The tailspin ensued.

Pretty sure he doesn’t have one ideal in mind. At least that is what I TRY to remind myself.

Just wanted to clarify that I don’t think God has one ideal body shape now. I was just musing about what Eve looked like and the possibility that our “ideal” body could be totally different from hers.

As a mother of two daughters I am super careful about what I say in front of them about my weight, looks, etc. And, when I do hear them criticize themselves it does break my heart – because to me they look absolutely perfect – and I’m reminded of how God must feel similar when I criticize myself. Ideal beauty varies from time to time, country to country, and culture to culture – and, it is in the “eye of the beholder”. To me, ideal beauty is confidence in how you look (whether anyone likes it or not) and an appreciation for the body that you have. Whenever I’m critical of myself, I try to quickly remind myself that my body works, my legs run, I can jump, I can swim, etc. I’m not perfect, but I’ll do just fine and I’m thankful for that.
However, I must admit, I’m insanely curious about what Eve looked like. 🙂

Great post. I think God wants us to view our body as a temple and to take care of it by being a healthy weight. But I do think God would disagree with our obsession about body image and weight. Supermodels are generally not healthy and therefore are not taking care of the body that God gave them. Just my 2 cents 😉

I would LOVE to know what Eve looked like. And I hate that we will never know, because Im sure once we get to heaven it wont matter so we wont think, “darn girl you look good” 🙂
