Feeling Responsible

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that.  Don’t be impressed with yourself.  Don’t compare yourself with others.  Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”

Galatians 6:4-5 (The Message)

I don’t know about you but there are seasons of my life where I feel like God gives me a word to live with, wrestle with, process and apply to my life.  Lately that word has been “responsibility”.  I’ve been overwhelmed by the responsibility that God has entrusted me with.  I feel the weight of the decisions I make and the influence I have every day.  And I can’t shake the immense responsibility I feel.

This passage from Galatians has almost become like a life verse in this season of my life.  It summarizes what I feel like God is speaking directly to me these days.

  • Explore who I am and God’s calling on my life
  • Dive into that calling
  • Don’t become prideful
  • Don’t compare myself with others
  • Take responsibility
  • Do the best with the life/gifts/influence God has given me

    INTENSITY

    Hebrews 6:9 “I’m sure that won’t happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you—salvation things! God doesn’t miss anything. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.”

    I wish God did have a word he was working in me right now! 🙂

    I really like that list of things…I have a hard time with not comparing myself to others. I look at things I do and see folks who do it better and wonder if I wasted my time (even when knowing I didn’t.)
