Everyone Needs An Edward

According to the L.A. Times, Eclipse opened with first week sales of $175.3 million making it the most successful first week sales for any movie so far this year.

And yes, I too am a sucker for the Twilight Saga.

I have been challenged on many occasions by my more rational friends (usually of the male gender I might add) to explain my fascination with vampires, werewolves and far-fetched story lines…

So here’s what I’ve got for you…

Everyone needs an Edward.

(And guys, before you choose to check out, hang in here.  I think I have a nugget for you too.)

Everyone needs an Edward because…

Everyone needs a fierce defender. Someone who loves you that ridiculously and protects you with the fiercest love and devotion.

Everyone needs someone who understands our fragility. Someone who understands how fragile you are and cares for you with the ultimate gentleness.

Everyone needs someone who believes in them.  Someone who believes in the good you are and are yet to become.

Everyone needs someone who watches out for our heart. Someone who cares for and protects your soul.

One of my favorite John Maxwell leadership laws is The Law of the Inner Circle.  John explains the importance of having a team of people around us who play different roles in our life: Intercessor, Listener, Encourager, Creator, Discerner, Giver, Defender, Implementer, Celebrator, Resourcer, Sponsor, Thinker, Networker, Mentor & Protege.  (I’ve talked about this before here.)

We long for teammates who complete us, who complement our gifts and champion us to be our best.

So maybe, just maybe that’s what all we raving Twilight fans are connecting with.

Maybe 🙂

Go Team Edward!

Wow. Can't believe I'm commenting on a Twilight related blog.

Honestly, you've got something here. I like to believe I am (or am becoming) that very thing for my wife. May everyone have someone in their life -spouse, friend, co-worker, parent- that loves them just that fiercly.

By the way…my new born son's name is Caius. Someone asked me and my wife if we named him after the Twilight character. Had no idea what they were talking about. Just hope I don't hear someone ask that again.

I read your tweet earlier and linked from my phone while sitting in traffic. Yes, I'm a law-breaker. Pray for me.

Anyway, totally agree with the insight, but I'm a Jacob fan. I don't want to be with someone who would leave me in a forrest then appear in dreams. That's a version of Satan. I'm just sayin'…

If you're free in Nashville, I'm calling dibs on you!

Ugh.. Team Edward? Jenni. Everyone knows Jacob has all the same qualities you listed, sans the obsessive control-factor of Edward.

I dunno… we might need to discuss this offline. I fear our friendship may be at stake 😉 😉

Ok, I'm probably one of the few girls that just hasn't caught onto the Twilight saga…but after reading this maybe I will. You have some wonderful observations of Edward that pertain to our everyday life. Thank you for the perspective! 🙂

Or … maybe its the abs … just kidding. You know I loved it long before all those abs hit the theater. 🙂

I like your thoughts, my friend.

Jenni! I love this post! Twilight is a guilty pleasure of mine and the "we all want an Edward" is a definite truth. But to be honest… I love Jacob. I want a Jacob. A friend who is there at all times, even when Bella's heart is broken and completely in love with someone else. A man who reminds her who she is, where she comes from, and where she belongs. A guy who will fight for her until her heart stops beating. He never gives up on her. Plus, he's mortal… and he's sooo much cuter 😉

But I wouldn't mind an Edward either 🙂
