For Love of You
My life is marked by music. I’ve always loved it. Some of my fondest memories are attached to a tune and lyric.
From my first LP of Sha Na Na – my little 4 year old heart was convinced that Bozer was singing “Good Night Sweetheart” exclusively to me – to claiming 867-5309 as my first phone number, to singing a duet of The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World” in a middle school choir concert, music has marked moments of my life.
Most years there is a song that sticks with me. A song that I just can’t get out of my head and that never gets old.
If 2010 had an anthem, it was Audrey Assad‘s song “For Love of You”.
Every time I hear this song it brings me to tears. It reminds me that it’s all bigger than me. That it is all God at work. That it’s Him in everything I do.
I received a copy of this song just weeks before the Nashville Flood. This song was the instrument that God used to remind me of His greatness in the midst of great tragedy. I literally would play this song on repeat to and from relief efforts that first week of the flood. I know it will forever be etched into my memory.
You live in a million places
Your fingerprints can be seen on a million faces
and there’s a trace of You
in every alleluia
every song that I sing
for love of You
I’m a sky on fire
for love of You
I come alive
it’s Your Sacred Heart within me beating
Your voice within me singing
(out for love of You)
it’s all for you
You are the highway I travel
cause i watched You carve streets of gold
from sin and gravel
I gave You brokenness
You gave me innocence
and now this road leads to glory
You are my deepest longing
so I see You everywhere
it’s You I’m chasing after
cause I am captivated by who You are
and how You move
I’ll follow You forever
God
for love of You
Do songs mark moments for you? Did you have an anthem in 2010?
Hugs! I remember that middle school concert. I need to look up that song. Love ya
Jenni, the 2010 song for me was “Beautiful Things” by Gungor.
I heard them do it at Recreate in Feb, was totally blown away, and much like you the flood drove it home for me.
As I was standing in the rubble of a destroyed home, belonging to a family that I had known since first moving to Nashville, wondering how this could happen to such an amazing family, I saw a cluster of flowers that were seemingly never under 9 feet of water, just 1 day prior, beautiful, standing alone in the mud. I stood there with tears rolling down my face with this line from the song running through my head. ” All around, Hope is springing up from this old ground,
Out of chaos life is being found, in You”
Butch, that’s a great one! Definitely would be another song at the top of my list – what a powerful story from the flood!
thank you Jenni 🙂 I am honored that this song has been a blessing to you! Hope to meet in person soon.
