Fight It!

Resistance is the most toxic force on the planet.  It is the root of more unhappiness than poverty, disease, and erectile dysfunction.  To yield to Resistance deforms our spirit.

Resistance arises from within.  It is self-generated and self-perpetuated.  Resistance is the enemy within.

quotes from The War of Art
by Steven Pressfield

I felt it the moment the alarm went off. The longing to just lie there, snooze a bit more or perhaps read a few pages from the book on my nightstand.  Anything but get up and go for my morning run. There was no good excuse not to go – the sun was up, it wasn’t raining, the temperature was moderate – all the makings of a good run.  But resistance won.

Frustrated with my defeat, I determined to run after I got home from work. That was a good compromise. I could still make this up.  So I arrived home determined not to be beat this time.  I went straight to my running gear, suited up and headed out.  But now conditions weren’t so favorable – with sun shining brightly/hotly, 85 degrees with a heavy humidity and gusty winds that seemed to be always against me rather than with me, I faced resistance with every step.

Resistance never gets easier. It gets harder with each delay. Resistance is a war of oppression that gets heavier the more we put it off.

My running story was a very simple but tangible example of the mental resistance wars we fight every day. The more we put them off the more oppressive they become.

What are you fighting?

What are you delaying?

What is holding you back?

Fight it!
