A Constant Journey
I’m kind of a geek for self-discovery. I love uncovering the layers of who God has created me to be. I love deciphering what is authentically me and what has been shaped by my life experiences.
I love personality profiles, self-help quizzes, spiritual gifts tests and just about anything that helps me “make a careful exploration of who I am” (from my favorite verse Galatians 6:4-5).
So that’s why I’m thoroughly enjoying my newest treasure:
Unwritten Travels is a fun little book co-written by my friend Jenny Black and her friend Jenny Watson.
“The Jennys” take you on a whimsical journey of self-discovery that is fun, insightful, thought-provoking and inspiring. I know you’ll enjoy it too. You can check out their website Unwritten Travels and/or order Unwritten Travels here.
What’s your favorite self-discovery resource?
Yay for a new book to add to my list! 🙂 I'm much like you and sometimes find myself suckered into those quizzes of "What color are you?"etc. But probably my favorite self-discovery resource is life. You truly find out who you are when faced with the various moments life has to bring. What you decide, how it makes you feel, how it effects others…
Great points Morgan. Sometimes you have to stop and observe how life is affecting you and do some of your own God-guided discovery.
Jenni,
Any other good reads for us psychological/self-discovery readers?
I'm reading John Ortberg's "The Me I Want to Be" right now – really good and has a free assessment you can take.
I'm also a huge fan of any of the Strengths Finder books by Marcus Buckingham.
oooh that looks really good. i appreciate unique things like that…
i love self-discovery stuff too… i'm a huge sucker for it… I may have to check this out 🙂
Jenni, I took a two part class through Leadership Network called "Listen to Your Life" – it was remarkable and uses many life maps as well as "intentional listening" with a friend to help people process the work of God in their life. It was life changing for me and one of my mentors helped develop it – Sibyl Towner. It can be done in two weekends or in a life group setting over the course of several months. It helped me move towards my decision to resign at The Brook and enter missions. It taught me LOTS about myself!
oh, you can buy it online too. http://www.oneLifemaps.com/
