Simple Joys
The last few weeks have been especially hectic…
conferences…
budgets…
performance plans…
new campus development…
baggage…
I’ll admit there have been days where I have wondered whether I can hang in there at this pace. I’ve found that when I’m in these seasons I have to be even more intentional about the simple things that bring me joy.
Fresh flowers in the house…
A relaxing cup of tea…
Playing “ready, set, go” with Mick…
A hug from my husband…
What are some of the simple joys that you need in your life?
in Other
a good book
quiet time
hot bubble bath
hot tea
my children giggling
movie nights with my guys
kayaking on a lake
long walk with a friend
early morning fresh air and quiet
Sometimes when it gets like that I need a morning to work at home – in a word I need a slower start and SPACE. I take a walk, work in my pjs for an hour or two and just generally retreat for a little bit at least. I still work, just in my own way. (us creative types are terribly stifled sitting in an office – it just shuts me down creatively)
taking a walk
talking to a friend
a hot bath and a good, EASY book
making some time for a small date with Phil
sitting and talking with my children
But seriously, a break from the office helps me more than anything. I am more productive.
Care for yourself, my friend.
Coffee on the back porch.
Need to have my coffee on the back porch.
taking my dog for a walk
hanging out with my kids with nowhere to go, nothing to do
a rainy Saturday where no one’s around and I’ve got a good book to read . . .
Fresh flowers are huge for me. And reading…which, btw, yesterday afternoon’s productivity came to a screeching halt once I found Midnight Sun.
So…THANKS. 😉
On my drive into the office each day I make myself look at God’s beauty. The sunrise was gorgeous today. And this week you can see the beginning of the color change starting. Just some simple things that don’t take much but change my outlook…for awhile at least.
Oh, yes! reading, long walks, and anything outdoors… a few of my favorite things!
reading a Karen Kingsbury book
being on the beach w/ my family
drinking my morning coffee w/ hubby by my side
fresh flowers
a new seasonal candle. – just bought the pumpkin one
🙂
Getting up early Saturday morning and going for a Bike ride on the hills here in Brighton, England.
Walking the Beach with Mandy
Morning Coffee on my front porch
A quiet house & a noisy house
Frozen Reese Cups or even better in Maggie Moos Better Batter ice cream
An unplanned evening in with the family.
Double dark chocolate from Marble Slab.
Saturday morning sleep-in, then breakfast at Le Peep with my man.
Open windows with breeze blowing through the house.
A belly-laugh so hard that it hurts, with tears flowing.
Hummmm. And just for fun, how about one of those new MacBooks under the Christmas tree. Just kidding. Ok, not.
A nice relaxing motorcycle ride always does the trick.
A long walk, especially this time a year, the leaves are beautiful this year.
A quiet evening in the backyard by a camp fire.
I really appreciate this post, Jenni. Never have we needed “simple joys” ……as much as we do in this present age.
Playing in the floor with our chocolate miniature dachshund, Maggie May. She can make stress disappear in a moment….
A cup of coffee with hazelnut creamer…
Watering the 7 flower beds in the late evening…
Last, and greatest of all:
Playing a beautiful worship CD with surround sound….ushering me into the throne room of Jesus….where I can rest my head against His bosom….
coffee (decaf…i know, whats the point?)
computer
hearing my family laugh
oh. and clean floors
Worship Music
Hugs from my hubby
Hugs from my kids
